Cruising the Caribbean

Cruise ships, big and small (OK, mostly big), bring thousands of travelers to the Caribbean every year. Like Caribbean resorts themselves, cruises vary by price, atmosphere, and audience. You'll find family-friendly Disney cruises plying these waters alongside fun-loving Carnival and elegant Celebrity Cruise Line and Radisson Seven Seas.

Many cruises depart from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area (especially those headed to the Bahamas) and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Houston/Galveston serves as a departure point for some cruises headed to the Mexican Caribbean and Western Caribbean as well.

Remember that some ships will reposition during off-season (read: hurricane) months when demand is lowest. Summer and early fall often means that some of these ships head to Alaska for the season, but you'll still find many ships from which to choose (along with some good bargains during that period.)
