Guadeloupe Picture the French Caribbean and you probably think of St. Martin--or maybe St. Barts or Martinique. Guadeloupe remains a secret to many North American travelers, a hideway that offers French and Creole food as well as plenty of ecotourism fun. The main island is shaped like a butterfly. The eastern wing is the home of the airport and many resorts; the western wing is home to La Soufriere volcano, many waterfalls, and plenty of outdoor fun. Two smaller islands -- Les Saintes and the larger Marie-Galante -- lie offshore and offer good day trips. Fast Facts: Language: French and Creole Currency: Euro Population: 412,000 Recommended for: dining, ecotourism For More Information: Guadeloupe Office of Tourism, www.antilles-info-tourisme.com Map
